5 ways to brighten your home this spring
Hello March, aren’t we glad to see you!
I think we speak for everyone when we say, thank goodness that winter is over. Between lockdowns, stay-at-homes and snowstorms – it has been a very dark few months for Scotland. But we have made it! The nights are getting lighter and the days ahead are looking brighter.
After being at home all winter, fatigue from staring at the same decor might be kicking in and you might be considering freshening it up. So we have put together some tips for brightening up your home.
Nothing says spring like a good old clear-out. It’s the perfect time to get rid of all the things that you have accumulated over the previous seasons. Make a list and get stuck-in. That cupboard that hides all the sins. That drawer that needs an extra shove just to close. Under the kids beds (we heard that gasp of horror!). Tackle them all. Your home will feel so much bigger and brighter for it.
Dirty windows reduce the amount of light that gets into your home – so shine them right up and let that light in. Swapping your winter curtains for light, airy drapes will also give your home a fresher feel. If you are thinking long-term, replacing or installing new windows can help flood the home with natural light. It’s also possible to choose the width of the frames on new windows, giving you a larger glazing area without altering the size of the window opening.
ADD SOME FLOWERS AND PLANTS
Bringing a touch of nature to the home is great for wellbeing. It’s also great for adding some colour. Windowsill gardens are very on-trend for 2021 and March is the perfect time to start planting. If you are a flowers type of person, consider some indoor daffodils or pansies. If you prefer your plants to be more practical, consider an indoor herb garden.
Installing a door with glazing can bring some well-needed light into a dark hallway. If it is colour that you are after, go bold with a bright composite door in Buttercup Yellow or Pastel Violet. Installing French doors or bifold doors can really transform a space too, as well as creating a seamless transition between home and garden.
Speaking of spaces, another way to make your home brighter and get ready for the warmer months is to add a living space. Conservatories and orangeries are predicted to be very popular this year. Especially with people looking to maximise their space as they continue to work from home. Unlike older conservatories, modern conservatories are built for year-round use. However, they become even more enjoyable when the light nights come in – home and garden become one and you can maximise the daylight hours. Perfect for entertaining!
